Imagine
This puts the daily struggle in such an accurate portrayal, take a bow Mr Bowen.
IMAGINE waking up in the morning to find you have lost your sense of smell.
IMAGINE getting out of bed to find that you are only able to take very short steps.
IMAGINE you have shirt buttons that you cannot get to go through the holes they went through yesterday.
IMAGINE your vision becoming blurred and the DVLA withdrawing your driving licence therefore having to rely on your partner/carer to take you everywhere.
IMAGINE you take the first 3 tablets of which will total 16 before lights out at 10pm.
IMAGINE you have great difficulty gripping soap and toothbrush therefore taking 20 minutes to do what used to be a 5 minute job.
IMAGINE starting to write a letter or shopping list and by the time you reach the end of the first line your writing has been reduced to an illegible mess.
IMAGINE for the next 12/14 hours every muscle in your body, of which there are 600, will not receive any instructions from the brain on what action to be taking.
IMAGNE walking normally for several minutes then “ freezing “ and being totally unable to move for 2/6 minutes. Think airport or train.
IMAGINE having the embarrassment of having your food cut up in a public place because you have an “off period” where your movements have slowed down due to timing of medication.
IMAGINE sitting on the toilet for ages thanks to constipation caused by the medication you are taking.
IMAGINE you have a diminishing group of friends due to the fact they want to avoid socialising with someone whose voice is getting softer and softer and cannot bring a round of drinks from the bar without spilling 25% of it lost due to tremor.
IMAGINE trying to wire a plug up with one hand constantly shaking.
IMAGINE having to sleep in separate beds from your lover of 52 years because some of you medication induced dreams result in physical assault
IMAGINE if you and your wife/ partner going out to a rare social event, it now takes you longer to get ready than her.
IMAGINE that by the end of the day your muscles and joints will feel that you have played 90 minutes of rugby in the scrum for England but have achieved absolutely nothing.
IMAGINE that tomorrow will be no different from today.
IMAGINE having very severe anxiety from being angry that you don’t have control of your life, which results in being short tempered and often firing of at the only person you cannot live without. Your partner/carer.
IMAGINE having the condition known as Parkinsons.
YOU JUST HAVE.
Every day is a battle, some you win most you lose but the war goes on until we find a cure. Help us take control. www.friendsofparkies.co.uk
